PostHog Integration
This guide provides a comprehensive overview of the PostHog integration, from setup to daily use. It is intended for product managers, designers, researchers, and support agents who want to leverage product analytics data from PostHog to drive product decisions.
Introduction
The PostHog integration allows you to connect your PostHog account to this platform, enabling a seamless flow of product analytics data. By integrating with PostHog, you can:
- Enhance feedback with product analytics: Automatically enrich customer feedback with user and feature analytics data from PostHog.
- Gain deeper insights: Understand the "why" behind user behavior by combining qualitative feedback with quantitative analytics.
- Prioritize with confidence: Make data-driven decisions by understanding the business impact of feedback.
- Improve product development: Identify the most impactful features to build and the most critical issues to fix.
Setup Process
Connecting your PostHog account is a straightforward process. Here's how to do it:
- Navigate to the Integrations Page: From the main dashboard, go to Settings > Integrations.
- Select PostHog: Find the PostHog integration and click Connect.
- Enter Your PostHog Credentials: You will be prompted to enter the following information:
- API Key: Your PostHog personal API key. You can create one in your PostHog account settings.
- Host: The URL of your PostHog instance (e.g.,
https://app.posthog.com
). - Project ID: The ID of your PostHog project.
- Connect: Click Connect to complete the setup. The PostHog integration will now show as Connected.
Data Synchronization
Once connected, the platform will automatically fetch data from your PostHog account to enrich your customer feedback. Here's a breakdown of how it works:
- On-Demand Fetching: Unlike other integrations, PostHog data is not synced and stored in our database. Instead, it is fetched on-demand when you view a piece of feedback.
- Data Collected: When you view a piece of feedback, the platform will fetch the following information from PostHog:
- User Analytics:
- Total events
- Last seen date
- Feature usage
- Session count
- Average session duration
- User segment (e.g., "power user," "new user")
- Feature Analytics:
- Total users
- Daily and weekly active users
- Adoption and retention rates
- Completion rate
- Satisfaction score
- User Analytics:
- Data Processing: The collected data is then used to provide a "business context" to your feedback, including:
- An enhanced priority level
- An impact multiplier
- A recommended action
- Stakeholder urgency
User Interface
The PostHog integration does not have a dedicated page. Instead, the data is displayed in the context of your customer feedback. When you view a piece of feedback, you will see a new "Business Context" section that contains the following information:
- User Segment: The segment that the user who provided the feedback belongs to (e.g., "power user," "new user").
- Feature Impact Score: A score that represents the overall impact of the feature that the feedback is about.
- Users Affected: The number of users who have used the feature.
- Daily Usage: The number of users who use the feature on a daily basis.
- Adoption Rate: The percentage of users who have used the feature.
- Satisfaction Score: A score that represents how satisfied users are with the feature.
- Business Critical: Whether the feature is considered to be business-critical.
- Revenue Impact Estimate: An estimate of the potential revenue impact of the feedback.
- Churn Risk Level: The risk of the user churning.
- Enhanced Priority: The priority of the feedback, enhanced with the business context.
- Impact Multiplier: A multiplier that represents the overall impact of the feedback.
- Recommended Action: A recommended action to take on the feedback.
- Stakeholder Urgency: The urgency of the feedback for different stakeholders.
